The Salton Sea is a dying artificial lake in Southern California.  Similar to the Salt Lakes in Utah, the water has very high salinity and over time will not be able to support any wildlife.  Near there, in this forgotten corner of California is also Slab City and Salvation Mountain.  The former is a off-the-grid camp site.  The later is a creation made out of adobe, straw and paint by Leonard Knight.  I visited the area in February 2016.
